Brussels has so many interesting features to surprise its guests. We are sure that some of these facts about the city were unknown to you.

  • First comics in the world’s history was written and painted in Brussels. And of course many people know Smurfs, Asterix and Obelix. These and many other heroes have been created in Brussels, which can be called the birthplace of the comic book.
  • Brussels hosts the EU headquarters, the offices of NATO, and representatives of international companies.
  • This is the most landscaped European capital. Parks, gardens and other plant plantations occupy an area of more than 800 hectares.

  • The city’s name is made of two words: “bruoc” which means

  • The legend tells that Brussels appeared in the 6th century, founded by St. Gagerik. But for the first time this area is referred to as Bruocsella only in 996 year, according to the information found in the charter of Otto the Great.
  • The city is totally bilingual. All signs and pointers of Brussels are in two languages, the first inscription in Dutch, and the second - the French translation.
